Theirs is arguably more correct, though I think they both have mistakes.

JP doesn't always kick the upbeat into the first triplet, so that final kick in the second phrase is only played occasionally. However, the placement in the top transcription is mostly correct - in particular, the placement of the kick with the backbeat in the second bar of the phrase.

However, I think you have the placement of the first kick in the second bar more correct on the first partial of the second triplet.

The first one is correct to my ear. That's the one with the bo-diddley rhythm in the bass drum. The second example sounds strange to my ear. I hear the bass drum played with the right hand on the hi-hat. In other words, the bass drum is never played in the second partial of the triplet.

    That so ?

    rosanna45tv

only the first bass drum in the second bar is different then transcription in the interview so

About the bass drum played on the second bar in unisson with the backbeat you right, i just watch again the DVD when he explain it and he first play 2 bar without the bass drum while playing backbeat on second bar but after he add it

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Yea seem he changed time to time, as i said above on the DVD he start 2 mesures without this bass drum and then he add it

Donu - I'm not sure I completely understand you. I didn't write that note simple because Jeff didn't play a note on count 3 of the second measure.

His groove was based on Fool in the Rain and (more closely) the Bo Diddley beat. Substituting a snare note for a bass drum note in that pattern was (I believe) primarily a musical choice, and a good one at that. Some drummers will force an idea into a musical situation, Jeff was too musical for that sort of thing.

    <font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">No i agree about bass drum on count 3 ( bar 2 )

It's about the bass drum on count 2 ( bar 2 ) , you placed it on the last note of the first triplet rather then on count 2

why you placed it like that

    rosanna61ra

    rather then like that

Vdrummer is correct- so that's another change from the Bo Diddly beat...but it's still correct.
